Osteoporosis Screening
Osteoporosis is a condition whereby there is a reduction in the components of bone rendering it more porous and therefore more liable to fracture. Unfortunately this loss of bone cannot be seen from the outside but when too much bone is lost, even a slight fall or minor stress will result in a broken wrist, hip or fractured bones of the spine. More than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 8 men in the UK will have an osteoporotic fracture in their life-time and hip fractures are potentially life threatening.

Screening services is housed at the Thorpe Bay Clinic and provides a
non-ionising, non-invasive approach to bone densitometry in the form of the
Cubaclinical ultrasound scan.
Young men and women are encouraged to have a scan to establish their bone status as their future likelihood of osteoporosis can be predicted, the cause diagnosed and with treatment prevented.
